With limited time for kids to be active during the school day, ensuring kids are getting the most out of their recess is very important. This November, Lincoln Elementary teachers participated in a two day Recess Implementation training put on by Playworks. Playworks is an organization based in Oakland, California that specializes in active play for kids. Not all recesses are created equal. With this training, Lincoln hopes to provide physical activity time that is engaging and inclusive for all students. Teachers are also given instruction on how to provide students with solutions for conflict resolution as well as how to create a positive culture around play. Through the training, Lincoln will also be provided with play equipment to compliment some of the new games teachers will offer their students. The Healthy Communities Partnership was able to cover a portion of the cost of the training and as interested in holding more trainings with Playworks in the future. If your school or organization would be interested in a Playworks training please contact us through the “Get Involved” tab on our home page.
